As an individual or an entrepreneur networking is an essential part of building your reputation and gaining future business.

With more than 500 million users, LinkedIn is the perfect way to network with key audiences. However, with so many people on this business social media platform, how can you use it to your advantage?

Here are seven LinkedIn hacks for 2018:

  1. Want to do some in-depth research on what a new employee is like? Want to know what their interests are? Or how they conduct business? The there’s a simple way of taking a quick look at their insights. Go to a connection’s profile, hover your mouse over the endorse button and click ‘view recent activity’ – this will give you a digest on everything they have been reading, posted or even shared on their LinkedIn profile.
  2. Hide your connections from peeping eyes. This feature is very common on Facebook but is a useful tool when head hunters want to come after your staff that you have trained so hard for years. Go into your privacy and settings feature by hovering over your picture in the top right-hand corner. Once you have done this, click on the ‘privacy’ tab, continue by clicking on ‘Who can see your connections’ and select ‘Only you’.
  3. Get found in keyword searches on Google or LinkedIn. Yes, make sure you are at the top of the list when someone searches on LinkedIn for a particular type of person, occupation or industry. Choose a couple of key words that the people you want to connect with will search for; insert these words into your headline and 3-4 times within your summary. Then insert these words anywhere else possible on your profile. Your very own SEO for LinkedIn.
  4. Want to be more personal with your connections? Export their e-mail addresses to make a firmer connection, send them newsletters and deliver e-shots that may be of interest to them. Hover your mouse over ‘My Network’ tab and click on the ‘Connections’ option. Proceed to click on the gear icon in the top right-hand corner and under ‘Advanced Settings’ click ‘Export LinkedIn Connections’ – choose your file type and export.
  5. Keep viewers on your page by disabling the ‘People also viewed’ section. Start again at the ‘Privacy and Settings’ tab and click the ‘Privacy’ tab. Click ‘Viewers of this profile also viewed’ and uncheck the box. You will keep those precious connections reading your content and not someone else’s.
  6. Set reminders to follow up with people. Firstly, visit the connections profile you need the reminder for, under their picture you will see three tabs. ‘Note’, ‘Reminder’ and ‘Tag’. Click reminder and set a custom alarm.
  7. Finally – stay anonymous on LinkedIn. This can have its advantages such as finding out more about someone you want to employ to check their employment history is correct. Click on your ‘Account Settings’ tab at the top right, then click ‘Privacy and Settings’ tab. Proceed to click, select what others see when you’ve viewed their profile. Once you have selected this a pop-up window will appear – select ‘you will be totally anonymous’ and save the changes.
