When it comes to social media, we’re all looking for the next milestone and number increase. Even when we’re saying it doesn’t matter, you can’t deny the little victory you feel when you reach 100’s, 1000’s and above. At onefoursix we know that numbers are important to react, analyse and revise your marketing plan going forward so here’s our guide to planning your next social media goal.
Think small when you start
This sounds obvious, but when you create a new profile especially something where you can’t just invite people to like, then think about who you want to target. Numbers aren’t your target when starting up, it’s about hitting the right audiences. So think industry based and your ideal demographic. If you run a restaurant, you’ll want local people to know about you because they’ll be the ones who will come in based off your content. This isn’t about numbers but awareness.
What would hitting 1000’s of people ACTUALLY mean?
Each platform has its uses when it comes to stats. Facebook is probably your most useful follower count as you can track all the demographic coming in and also see the steady rise. Your ads can target locally and you can see a lot of information regarding your followers.
Instagram however can be a bit of a minefield. There’s LOADS of spam within Instagram, you’ll find this if you upload a photo and get likes instantly or comments that say ‘You look great’ when really, it’s a picture of food. So whilst numbers are what drives Instagram, there’s a lot of unverified content and engagement on there so 1000’s doesn’t equate to much sometimes.
Pick and choose where you want to grow rather than trying to grow all of them at once.
Create a campaign, plan and promote
Think about what you’re going to do in order to reach your new goal. If your aim is to gain 50 new LinkedIn followers on your company page then look at how you’re going to do that. More of the same may not be the answer. You need to look at a plan and change things up. This could be direct message and talking to people, it could be content marketing, videos or just promotion in general.
