You may be surprised to hear that the top New Year’s Resolution for 2014 was to ‘Get Fit’ (are you really all that surprised?!). You may be even more surprised to hear that ‘Trading your Partner in for a Better Model’ was also on that list! However this was a list released by the Daily Mail, so read into that what you will!
We all talk about the New Year being the perfect time to ‘make a change’, but for those of us who are self employed, are you considering the changes you should be making to your business too?!
As the owner to 2 companies, one of which is a local Marketing Agency, I have decided to share with you my essential marketing resolutions for 2015.
There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to marketing your business. You need to find out what works for you and do more of the same! However, hopefully some of our tips/resolutions will help you find out what works.
First things first – you need to review the previous year. Take yourself out of your business for half a day or so, and find out what went well and why, and what didn’t go so well. Work on the bits that did go well, and change the bits that didn’t go so well.
After you have decided on your Marketing Resolutions for 2015, take time out to plan how you are going to implement each of them. You wouldn’t drive up to Glasgow without first planning the route, so why would you do the same for your business?!
Anyway onto our resolutions!
This will have all sorts of benefits! Content marketing is on the up, and has been for a while
now. Blogging forms part of this. Your customers want to know that they are dealing with ‘experts in their industry’. What better way to prove this than writing about subjects relevant to your industry? Blogging will also have a positive effect on where your website ranks on Google. Google just loves an up to date website! Not sure what to write? Call the onefoursix team to ask about one of our Blogging course dates for 2015!
Show people what you are all about!
Do you have a portfolio on your website? If not, why not? How are your customers supposed to know what to expect if they cannot see some of your previous jobs? Whilst you are at it, share the work you have done on Social Media. Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are great for sharing images! If you don’t have a portfolio section on your website, then contact the onefoursix team. We are able to build you a content managed site that you can manage. Either that or we could convert your current site into a content managed site for a fraction of the cost!
There are so many Social Media channels out there; Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google+, and more! They might not all be right for your business, but it is worth researching the ones that are. Using Social Media keeps you in touch with your customers in a more informal level. Also, Google loves it, and we just love it when Google is kept happy! But you need to know what you are doing, and by attending one of our Social Media Training Courses, we can give you some great tips on getting yourself started on the likes of Facebook and Twitter.
Don’t forget about your past customers!
We have all done it; you do a fantastic job for a customer, and next thing you know, a year has gone by and you haven’t spoken with them since! By simply utilising your CRM System (Customer Relationship Management System), you can send regular, informative email campaigns to keep them up to date on everything you are doing! Mailchimp is a great email-marketing tool which is fully customisable. Please just consider my final point when sending email campaigns.
Yes! I said it! Stop selling! How often do you ignore or block those annoying sales posts made on Facebook, or the sales emails that come in on a Monday morning? Instead give something back. Advice, tips, the occasional offer, industry news, your previous work – these are all things your customer wants to see. Some of our resolutions will work for your business, and some will not. However, whatever you end up doing marketing wise this year, make sure it is fully thought through, planned out, and most importantly, make sure you record the results!
