You can finally switch between Instagram accounts

It is not often that I get excited by a notification warning me of an update to one of my iPhone apps. However this one was different. I had read on the news boards about the up and coming Instagram update. Version 7.15 was due to roll out a feature I have been anticipating since the dawn of time (I be exaggerating there slightly!). Version 7.15 was due to roll out the multi-profile feature.

Since Instagram was launched in 2010, business owners and marketeers have long needed to “log in” and “log out” to access multiple profiles. As small/medium business owners it is entirely feasible that we will have a personal and a business Instagram account. As a Social Media Agency, we have even more than that to manage. So the addition of a multi-profile feature was for a long time on my wanted list.

So what is it?

For those who use Twitter on your phone, you will notice a button with what looks like the outlines of 2 people on your “me” screen. By clicking that you can switch between your business and your personal accounts (or any other accounts you may hold).

So where is it on Instagram?

You will first need to add an account. You can do this by clicking on the cog symbol in the top right hand corner of your profile screen. 3 options from the bottom you will see the “Add Account” option. Once you have added the account you wish to use, revisit your Instagram profile screen and at the top you will notice a down arrow next to your name. By clicking this you open up a world of opportunity (maybe just the ability to switch between 2 or more accounts..).

The most recent update does also have some great features to support 3D touch on the iPhone 6s, however I do not yet own one of those so those will have to wait I am afraid. Have fun!
