With the first full month of 2019 already been and gone we thought it’d be appropriate to look at some of the best marketing campaigns out there this year already, and we have seen some brilliant ones.
Doing research about different marketing campaigns will allow you to extend your ideas and develop them further. It’s a concept you’re looking for or a trend to follow which will really make your customers sit up and notice of who you are!
Here are three brilliant campaigns which have already got people talking in 2019.
Gillette ‘The best men can be’
Big brands like Gillette are all jumping on the same bandwagon and making a stance about lots of political and social issues which they feel strongly about and this a concept trend which is developing because according to the 2018 Edelman Earned Brand report. They found one in two people are belief-driven buyers which means they choose, switch, avoid or boycott a brand based on its stand on shared issues.
Gillette has gone and done it and made themselves a strong backbone! Their campaign surrounds a short film of less than two minutes which switches the Gillette’s globally recognised slogan of ‘A best a man can get’ with ‘the best men can be’ and within it portrays situations of bullying, aggressive behaviour, sexism and sexual harassment.
This campaign went viral through Twitter and Facebook and whist Twitter is one of the hardest platforms for sales, it can be the best in terms of engagement, viral trends and hashtag marketing. Make sure you take use of relevant news and topics to your advantage!
The Grand Tour #amazonshitcarshow
Being funny is also something that will get your brand noticed. The use of hashtags is also a proven method to get your brand seen. A 2018 report from Sproutsocial claims that Instagram posts with at least one hashtag have 12.6% more engagement than those without. Could you imagine the impact if you used more than one? When you have up to 30 hashtags available to you, make use of them.
This is a ‘Prime’ example of a campaign that intends to be bad to get noticed – some find it funny, others find it rude and some people may just simply let it catch their eye but whatever it did for you, it certainly gets people talking!
Amazon isn’t the first to use this tactic – Carlsberg launched a campaign in response to the Protein World ‘Beach Body Ready’ campaign called ‘Beer Body Ready’ which generated some controversial opinions along with the time Dominoes promised to deliver pizzas in Japan by reindeers over the Christmas holidays – they may have had an inkling this campaign wouldn’t work though as they had some delivery scooters all decked out with reindeer antlers and snouts at the front (definitely worth a Google!)
HSBC: ‘We are not an island’
Using bold fonts and images to catch its audience’s attention, this campaign is effective and hits home to every culture. With Brexit looming HSBC are making it clear within this campaign that the UK is not an island nor should it be seen as one. It’s intention is to show how different cultures around the globe have an influence on our day to day lives within the United Kingdom. Effective and bold is what we like to see in our marketing campaigns and we’re sure this meets all of those requirements.
