Advertising across your social media channels is often hit and miss. Maybe you’ve boosted a few posts before or even put a few hundred pounds towards advertising through Facebook and seen good or bad results. Often, people don’t see the results they’ve hoped for so it’s all about trial and error.
Here’s our top tips on how to spend wisely with Facebook advertising.
Trial and error
The beauty about Facebook advertising is that you can spend as little as £1 per day. You can then scale that spend to whatever demographic you want – this is great if you understand your audience but when you don’t (maybe you’re just starting out), it can become a little overwhelming when there is so many segments of people to choose from. That’s why our advice is to spend little and test out your markets, see what performs well and how much engagement you get from it.
Make it work for your budget
Our advice would always be to make this work for your own marketing budget. Including this in your advertising spend and make sure it’s done carefully so that you know what your ROI will be in terms of engagement figures. Facebook always offers an estimation on this.
Don’t be afraid to look back
Often admitting something didn’t work last time can put you in a good positon to make a positive change, start again and make sure you try something different next time. Add this into your planning time and if you’re trying something similar with some small tweaks, spend less money trying to get it off the ground to see if it works first of all – start small before escalating your business spend. This all comes down again to trial and error.
Set clear targets
This may sound simple, but setting your targets and doing a full marketing analysis before deciding on where to place your Facebook advertising bets is the best way to start. You can go through the whole process before committing to payment via the Facebook advertising tool which you should do to familiarise yourself with what target audience segments will best suit the needs of your business.
Make Facebook and Instagram ads separately.
As Facebook owns Instagram, there is a hidden box where it automatically places Facebook ads on Instagram. This could be considered useful but Facebook tends to put more of your budget into instagram (which isn’t as nicely formatted as it’s an automatic function). Your budget then gets wasted on a bad instagram advert rather than your desired Facebook audiences. We recommend setting up two separate adverts for each platform. You can turn the instagram function off within the facebook ad to target the right places. If you’re wasting money and seeing no return, this is why!
Think about your industry
Every industry is different. Take a look at where your competitors are most heavily advertising and who they’re advertising to. Facebook also offers a tool to help you see what companies similar to yours are doing in terms of advertising and how well they’re performing so make sure you use this analysis type to create better opportunities for you and your business’ needs.
