As technology advances in such a rapid way, it is often easy to be left behind on your own platforms particularly your website. It is often a misconception that as long as the content is correct, your branding is relevant, and all of your business contact details are right you can just let the sales roll in – this couldn’t be further from the truth!
You need to make your website look professional and not just because it’s aesthetically pleasing, if your website looks dated or unprofessional, customers are less likely to trust it according to Infront webworks. They conducted a survey that concluded 94 per cent of people said they didn’t trust a website because of its design.
So why else do you need to update your website? And how can it impact your business? We take a look at how a website redesign can set you apart of your competitors…
Have you used a website builder?
Although website builder tools are good for beginners, they can also be very restrictive. Web builders such as Wix have many advantages but to ensure your website looks professional, a website builder tool also has many cons too.
For example, you are unable to switch templates after your website goes live, you may have to spend more on third party apps to scale your website and the vast choice and amount of customizable options can often leave people confused and overwhelmed with information. We also notice from our clients that want to move to a content managed system that Wix can be a bit of a nightmare to move over to a new website, luckily we can help with that but it’s worth avoiding from the outset.
It’s not unique…
The points above are all valid however, there’s also one crucial point that we’re missing out in that list which is that when you use a website builder, your website can look the same as thousands of others across the web due to the templates used so it does make it harder for your business to stand out. A lot of websites make mistakes such as not filling in every detail and social media icons can lead to the web builders social channels as default – a big mistake in 2019!
Using a professional content managed system to build your website from scratch has many advantages and so if you are using a template builder for your website currently, think about changing it to look fresh, sleek and unique. It does;t have to be a HUGE site but can have your stamp on it.
Does your current website do everything it needs to?
A good question to ask yourself is, does your website do what it needs to? If the answer is no, make a list of all the things you want it to do and why that will improve your website traffic. These days having email sign ups, social media icons, video uploader (and not just youtube), blog posts, layout adaptions are all vital to a modern look.
In the same survey as mentioned above, Infront webworks also revealed that 50 per cent of ecommerce revenue comes from mobile phones…now if your website isn’t accessible enough for smart phone users, they will totally give up and move on to your competitor who has already thought about how their website can look good for all types of interfaces.
And, vital point – just being able to access it on mobile doesn’t make it accessible. It needs to be easier, quicker and adaptable to work on mobile.
Target audiences
This is an extremely important excuse to redesign your website because often your target audiences can change and there is many factor which can contribute to this such as the economy.
Always evaluate your marketing strategy to ensure you are appealing to your audience, if you’re not, make sure your website reflects who you are directing communications to.
