Why you should consider the right image dimensions for different social platforms

According to Thermopylae Sciences + Technology, as humans, we respond and process visual data much better than any other data types. The human brain can process images 60,000 times faster than text, and 90 per cent of information transmitted to the brain is visual.

With these interesting facts, it’s clear that the way forward for social media is to use visual representations of our key messages which will help people remember what you have to say better. These facts also prove that it’s important to ensure that your images are just right and that includes making sure your image dimensions are accurate

Cropping off someone’s head, part of a key message or even an important call to action can hinder your social media post tenfold. That’s why we’ve come up with some ways in which you can deliver your visuals via social media the right way.

  1. Keep checking

Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram change their image sizes all the time in order to ensure that they fit with the new website template or just generally to make their site look better. We advise that whenever you undertake a review of your marketing strategy you take a quick look to make sure the dimensions are still correct for each site.

For Facebook we would suggest an upload of 1,200 x 630 pixels. Twitter we recommend a maximum of 1024 x 512 pixels (3 mb upload limit). For LinkedIn (which we find is the most tricky to get right) is a recommended upload of 1200 x 628 pixels. If you have any further questions for other social channels, message us today.

  1. Use tools

Using tools such as Canva and Snapseed will really help you to capture the right sizes for each social media visual while making them look beautiful. Both offer a range of visual templates, filters and much more to make your content pop. This includes everything from Instagram stories, Facebook, Twitter and more. You can even search deeper for Pinterest and more in here.

  1. Size it right

Use Social Image Resizer Tool to make sure you have the correct sizes for the platforms you are using. This is a great way to get around the fact that you may need to have expensive software to manipulate your images in order to get them to be the correct size and style.
