Email marketing – a form of digital marketing that many fear, the ‘what if’s’ that surround GDPR are still lurking but we’re here to inform you that whilst it’s important to be compliant, it’s far easier to use email marketing than you think. As long as your list has contacts that have agreed to be emailed and have access to unsubscribe at any moment, for now, you’ll be ok.
So, what is the best way to use email marketing effectively in order to secure leads this 2020? Read on…
Don’t be boring
We mean that in the nicest way possible but think about what will excite someone to open your emails. You obviously love your product, business or service but will everyone else see it with the same enthusiasm? It can be a privilege to stay subscribed to so make sure your contacts have a reason to keep reading. Speak to friends and family and see what they think?
We all have spates of unsubscribing from the emails we end up calling ‘spam’ so make sure yours stand out and provides value. Boring content can consist of generic messages, same-old topics and no call to action that provides value. Try to steer away from doom and gloom or even the obvious sales message. Value doesn’t always mean an offer but something that no one else is providing.
Choose a set day to send out messages
If you’re intermittent with your content, then you will have more unsubscribers as they are more likely to forget about you and why they signed up in the first place. As soon as you have a list, start messaging them, it’s expected that when people tick the box and confirm a subscription that they will get messages from you. Whether you’re talking to 1 or 10,000 – be present and noticed. Set a day a week or fortnight and send out consistently.
Don’t get offended if people unsubscribe
It’s easy to wonder why people choose to leave your email lists but we can guarantee you’ll have unsubscribed from someone in the last month too. Don’t worry about the drop-in numbers and focus on getting new ones. Make signing up easy and keep working on your new contacts. If you lose many in one go, assess your content and go from there.
Use emojis in your subject and headline
Emails with emojis in the headline or subject line are more likely to be opened. Fact. So, don’t feel threatened by looking unprofessional by using emoji’s and embrace them to provide an open conversation and personalisation to your brand. There is an emoji for everything so look at where you can use one.
Make sure your using a good mailing system
We’ve seen them all, PDF’s attached, formatted into an email that doesn’t show the same elsewhere, you name it. Look at using a piece of software like Mailchimp to format your emails correctly for desktop and mobile. Ensure you have plenty of links, social media and information about your company on there.
