There are two types of murder mystery. Some use paid actors to act out a story as characters, and you participate a bit as the audience. Our Gin, Jazz, Money and Murder game is an immersive experience where you are the characters in the story.

Upon arrival you will be given a slip of paper with a letter of the alphabet to keep secret, along with a character sheet that tells you who you are. There isn’t loads of information to read and learn off by heart, don’t worry! You learn your character name and a snippet of info about yourself, then mingle with the other guests until… the murder happens!

The victim is murdered off screen (so it’s not one of you) and an inspector will arrive to tell the guests what has happened and what they need to do. At this point, they will call out a random letter of the alphabet and if it matches yours, you’re the murderer! Keep it secret though!

The next stage involves all the guests mingling and asking each other questions in character. Everyone’s character sheets have an “innocent” and “guilty” section, if you’re the murderer you read from your guilty sections, and everyone who is innocent will read from the innocent section. The sections have been written to subtly make everyone look suspicious, the fun part is figuring out who has the motive and opportunity to actually commit the crime!

If you’ve seen The Traitors or Gosford Park (highly recommend it, cracking film) or played Werewolf, Blood on the Clocktower or One Night Ultimate Werewolf, then those are similar vibes.

The theme of our game is 1920’s (think The Great Gatsby, Chicago, Downton Abbey, Peaky Blinders, Hercule Poirot) – here’s some inspiration for your costume. There will be a prize for the best costume on the night, decided by the representative from Cynthia Spencer attending!
