Why SEO is so important during the Coronavirus pandemic

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a lot of impacts on the way we work, shop and communicate. Organic searches have seen a greater demand, impacting many businesses SEO strategies. This may mean you need to reevaluate your SEO strategy in order to help your business grow during the many lockdowns of Covid-19.

The ultimate goal is to improve your ranking on search engines to maximise your visibility to users. This includes utilising keywords and key phrases that are most appropriate to your products or services. Creating a successful SEO strategy will help to keep your business generating revenue during these uncertain times.

So what can you be doing to help your SEO?

We would suggest seeking professional advice from an experienced SEO agency to help you formulate a successful strategy. This ensures every unique concern to each business is considered, providing relevant tips to help get you started.

#1 Keep an eye on the latest trends

Because more people are browsing online, search trends are more likely to change more frequently, and therefore it is important to monitor the spikes in searches and adapt your SEO strategy accordingly.

SEO will play a particularly pivotal part in the recovery of businesses with a heavy physical presence. This is likely to include businesses like restaurants and retail stores. For example, in you own a restaurant, now is a critical time to be thinking about your SEO ranking on Google. Adapting your SEO strategy may include changing the outcome from attracting customers for ‘face-to-face experiences’ to a focus on offering delivery or outdoor dining.

During the pandemic, it is so important to make use of SEO in order to rank highly for the relevant terms and searches for your business. It is worth businesses investing more into their SEO as online searches continue to increase.

#2 Google My Business page

Google My Business was already an important SEO tool for businesses before the pandemic. However, many profiles, once set up, are forgotten about and abandoned. Now customers are looking online more for up to date information, the first page they are likely to come across is a Google My Business profile.

Google have made some big changes to Google My Business during 2020, in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. One of the many updates included temporarily stopping users from leaving a customer review. They then watched which businesses updated their page and what responses businesses were reporting too. For example, businesses that updated their working hours or offered delivery.

Google My Business provides many great features to allow your business to communicate with its customers better. Just a few examples include using your profile to announce an event, providing Q&A’s and displaying temporary closure times. It is important to make use of these features often. Keep your business information relevant at all times.

#3 Create new content

Content is king! Simple.

By creating fresh new content on your site that people want to read and are actively searching for, you will find a whole new audience very quickly. This will help to build your company’s reputation, establishing it as a reliable source. Remember to create content that is relevant and addressing new issues.

While creating more content is great, it is important that you are achieving sufficient click-through rates on every new blog or post. In order to achieve this, here are a few tips:

  • Pop a question into your page titles.
  • Avoid using ‘spammy’ language or ‘buzz words’ in your titles. This includes words such as ‘fantastic’, ‘beautiful’ or ‘delicious’.
  • Try to use the year in as many post titles as possible – this makes your content more relevant, demonstrating to viewers that the information they are reading is up to date.
  • Always link internally – this means providing plenty of links to your website pages.

#4 Rethink your keywords

Your SEO won’t be able to maximise its potential without effective keyword research. It is important to consider that there might be new keywords to target. This means that you should not only research new key terms, but also reevaluate your existing keywords.

Lets use the restaurant example again. Users online may be searching for what food delivery there is available in their local area. If your restaurant didn’t offer delivery before Covid-19, but does now, you want to ensure you update your SEO keywords. Otherwise, you won’t be making the most of your online presence and you will miss out on business.
